Buying a Vacheron Constantin Overseas: References, Functions and the Included Set
Share
When comparing Vacheron Constantin Overseas watches, start with the full reference and the functions you want. Review the individual watch's condition, documents and included set.
Decide what you want the dial to do
The Overseas listings in the Class1 catalogue use the reference prefixes 4500V/110A, 7900V/110A and 5500V/110A. They are not interchangeable descriptions. The 7900V is listed as an Overseas Dual Time, while the 5500V is listed as an Overseas Chronograph. These prefixes are starting points for an enquiry, not complete configuration identifiers.
| Starting point | Useful buying question |
|---|---|
| 4500V/110A Overseas | Is this the reference and dial configuration I intend to buy, and can the documents establish the full identifier? |
| 7900V/110A Dual Time | Do I want a second time-zone display, and can I read the local and home indications comfortably? |
| 5500V/110A Chronograph | Will I use an elapsed-time function, and do I prefer the more detailed counter layout? |
Vacheron Constantin's official black-dial 7900V/110A-B546 technical information describes local and home time, a home-time day/night indication and a date synchronised with local time. Its official 5500V/110A-B686 information describes a chronograph with 30-minute and 12-hour counters. Those documents explain the different functions; their dial suffixes and supplied accessory sets must not be copied onto another watch without matching evidence.
Ask for the complete reference, not a guessed suffix
A listing that stops at 4500V/110A leaves a configuration detail unresolved. Ask to see the corresponding paperwork and have any missing identifier confirmed. Do not fill the gap using a photograph of a similar watch or a current manufacturer page for a different generation. An official release date also does not establish when an individual watch was manufactured.
This matters when comparing specifications. A technical sheet for a different dial variant may explain a shared function, but it is not proof of the exact dial, material or accessory set of the example being offered. For a 4500V/110A enquiry, request the applicable original technical information rather than assuming specifications from a newer Overseas model.
Compare the set as carefully as the watch
The manufacturer documents above describe interchangeable bracelet and strap arrangements. That does not mean every individual watch offered for resale still has every original item. Request an itemised description of the bracelet, additional straps, clasps, spare links, box and documents included in the sale. Ask for photographs of those items together so that an attractive watch image does not stand in for the whole delivery set.
If you intend to change straps, ask the team to demonstrate the arrangement on that example. If bracelet fit matters, provide your wrist measurement and ask about the fitted length and any spare links. Check the condition of the clasp and straps as well as the case; a complete-looking set and a comfortable fit are separate questions.
Make a decision on the individual example
Compare current photographs, recorded condition, any disclosed service history and the written warranty terms. Factory model information does not authenticate a particular watch or certify its present water resistance. If those issues matter to your use, ask what individual-watch evidence is available before committing.
